How to Manage Orders at the POS Without Using a Kitchen Screen

Initial Setup: States and Table Map

Before your servers can start taking orders, make sure you set up FireMenu correctly.

  1. Configure the States

    Go to the “Settings” section and adjust the “Statuses” according to your establishment’s workflow:

    • “Waiter Statuses Only” : Recommended if waiters take orders at the table and then serve them. This option allows you to keep track of which items have already been served and which are still pending.

    • “Stateless” : Ideal if orders are prepared and served immediately, such as when the cashier handles everything from the register or bar.

  2. Configure the Table Map

    If orders are taken at tables, be sure to enable the table map . If, on the other hand, customers place orders directly at the register or bar, you can disable this option to simplify the process.


Create Accounts for Employees

In order for waiters and bartenders to access the POS system, you'll need to create accounts for each of them:

  1. Go to the “Employees” section and add each employee’s details, including their email address, phone number, and PIN for the multi-user terminal.

  2. Once configured, your employees will be able to access FireMenu in two ways:

    • App on your Phone : You can install the app and log in using your email or phone number.

    • Multi-User Terminal : They can also log in using the PIN assigned to them.


How to Manage Orders in the POS

Once employees have logged in, they will be able to manage orders from the “POS” section:

  1. Taking Orders

    If the table map is enabled, servers can select a table on the map and click "New Order" to add the items the customer has requested. If the map is not enabled, they can manage orders directly from the POS interface.

  2. Print Ticket for the Kitchen

    Even if you don't use a kitchen screen, FireMenu allows you to print a kitchen ticket if needed. Just click the print icon after adding the order.

  3. State Management (If Configured)

    If you've selected "Server Statuses Only," the server will need to manually change the item's status to "served" after delivering it to the customer. This makes it easier to track the flow of each order.


Additional Features in the POS

FireMenu offers several additional options to manage orders efficiently:

  • Split Order : Allows you to split the bill into parts if customers wish to pay separately.

  • Change Waiter or Table : Transfer the order to another waiter or change tables if customers move around.

  • Add Comment : Add specific notes to the order to communicate special instructions to the kitchen or server.


Payment Process and Order Closing

  1. Charge the Customer

    When the customer is ready to pay, click "Pay," print the check, and select the payment method. If the customer is paying in cash , enter the amount received and the system will automatically calculate the change. Click "Pay" to complete the transaction.


  2. Closed and Archived Orders

    Once payment is complete, the order is automatically closed and archived in the closed orders section, making it easier to control and access sales history.


  3. Pay First, Serve Later

    Would you prefer to pay before serving your order? No problem. In this case, the order will only be fully completed once all items have been served, ensuring proper flow.
