In 2026, VeriFactu , the new electronic invoice reporting standard developed by the Spanish Tax Agency (AEAT), will become mandatory in Spain. For restaurant and café owners, this means changes in the process of recording sales, issuing invoices and transmitting data to the state.

What is VeriFactu?

VeriFactu is part of the overall initiative to digitalise accounting. According to Royal Decree 1007/2023, each invoice created using the software must:
Contains a unique QR code and a "Veri*Factu" mark
Automatically transferred to AEAT at the time of its creation
Stored intact for inspection
This enables AEAT to receive invoice information in real time, ensuring transparency and combating tax violations.
📅 When will this become mandatory?
From January 1, 2026 – for companies (including legal entities in the HoReCa sector), i.e. SL.
From July 1, 2026 - for self-employed persons, i.e. autónomo.
🍽 What impact does VeriFactu have on restaurants and cafes?

For the restaurant business this means:
Transition to AEAT compliant programs
Establishing Instant Invoice Reporting Processes
The use of electronic invoices with QR codes is mandatory
Increased attention to data integrity and immutability
All these requirements apply to both large establishments and small cafes or food trucks that use POS systems or issue invoices to customers.
🔧 🔥FireMenu is now ready for VeriFactu
FireMenu has adapted its software to meet AEAT requirements, but while this is not mandatory for restaurants, we make the transition to the new accounting system at the customer's request.
Our system:
Automatically generates invoices with the appropriate mark and QR code
Sends data to AEAT when an order is closed.
Ensures the immutability and security of stored documents
This allows restaurants and cafes not only to comply with the law, but also to simplify daily accounting operations, reduce the risk of fines and increase customer confidence.
⚠️ What happens if I don't meet the requirements?
Financial penalties
Risk of tax audits
Problems with accounting and reporting
